About Scalp Microneedling
Microneedling has become increasingly popular in the world of cosmetic enhancement over the past few years, offering an effective way to stimulate the body’s own regeneration mechanism, resulting in younger-looking skin without the use of chemicals.
Now experts have realised that the same technique can be applied to the treatment of hair loss, with scalp microneedling fast becoming one of the most favoured non-invasive hair loss treatments around.
What is Scalp Microneedling?
Scalp microneedling involves the application of tiny needles all over the surface of the scalp, creating thousands of ‘micro injuries’.
The theory is that this process stimulates the body’s wound-healing response, causing a surge of growth factors and stem cells in the affected area, thus stimulating hair growth.
Experts advise that up to eight sessions may be needed, spaced between one to two weeks apart to allow the skin to heal between treatments. Scalp microneedling can be used in conjunction with other hair growth products to achieve best results.

Frequently asked questions
What is scalp microneedling?
Scalp Micro Needling consists of micro needles that cause microscopic injuries to the hair follicles, creating controlled injury whereby the body responds by sending platelets and plasma to the area to repair the damaged and injured cells increasing blood supply to the follicles. Results are thicker and healthier hair.
Are there any side effects to scalp microneedling?
There may be some bleeding, redness and bruising immediately after treatment, but this is usually covered by your hair.
It is important that you keep your scalp protected from the sun after undergoing scalp microneedling, as the skin will be more sensitive than usual.
Can I perform the treatment myself at home?
Whilst it is possible to buy microneedle rollers for home use, it is always advisable to undergo treatment in a clinic environment.
Firstly, because the microneedles used by qualified practitioners will penetrate more deeply and therefore produce better results, but also because any procedure that breaks the skin creates an infection risk and should be performed in an aseptic environment.
How long will it take to see results?
It can take around nine months after treatment finishes for hair regrowth to show, but as with laser therapy, it is important to remember that the changes are happening beneath the surface of the skin.
Who is a suitable candidate for scalp microneedling?
Scalp microneedling is most effective for those in the early stages of hair loss, as follicles that are no longer producing hairs cannot be restimulated.
Whilst commonly used to treat androgenic alopecia (female or male pattern baldness), experts think scalp microneedling could also be useful in treating other hair loss conditions, such as alopecia areata, telogen effluvium and traction alopecia.

How much does it cost?
Pricing is $299 per session.
What are the aftercare instructions for scalp microneedling?
You can wash your hair after microneedling, but it’s best to wait for about 8 – 12 hours to allow your scalp to start the healing process. Adhering to these aftercare instructions and paying attention to your scalp’s response can help you maximize the benefits of your microneedling treatment.
